The Brookings Institution and Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group this week announced a new co-publishing partnership. Under the agreement, Rowman & Littlefield will produce, distribute, market, and sell Brookings Institution Press titles. Brookings Institution Press will continue to be responsible for acquisitions and editorial review. Clarke & Esposito had the privilege of working with Brookings to help broker this noteworthy arrangement.

C&E had the privilege of representing ASN in brokering this notable deal, which encompasses Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (JASN), Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (CJASN), and Kidney360.

This final report documents the supply chain related to open access (OA) monograph creation, distribution, and curation. It is based on information collected in 2020 through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with stakeholders and subject-matter experts representative of the supply chain. The report was funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Clarke & Esposito (C&E) announces the development of a multi-client benchmarking study focused on editorial honoraria and other related editorial metrics. The aim of the study is to provide participants with information to make better evidenced-based decisions related to journal publishing. The study is open to all society-owned journals, whether published independently or via a publishing services agreement with a commercial publisher. The initial study cohort will be focused on biomedical journals but we plan to open it up to other disciplines later in the year. If you are interested in participating, please let us know by April 30th, 2021.

Management consulting firm Clarke & Esposito today announced that David Crotty will be joining the firm in the position of Senior Consultant. David’s joins the firm from Oxford University Press, where he held the position of Editorial Director, Journals Policy. At OUP he oversaw journal policy and contributed to strategy across OUP’s journals portfolio, drove technological innovation, and managed a suite of renowned society-owned journals. "We look forward to applying his experience, expertise, and insights to our work with clients.”

Beginning in 2021, ASH will work with Elsevier to publish Blood, ASH’s flagship journal and one of most prominent titles in all of science and medicine. The agreement also covers Blood Advances, ASH’s highly successful and rapidly growing open access journal.
